National Grid is making significant investments to modernize its natural gas system in Brooklyn. Over the course of the next few years the Metropolitan Natural Gas Reliability Project will improve Brooklyn’s natural gas system by increasing the system’s safety, reliability, and operational flexibility. The project will also improve the gas system’s capacity to support the area’s economic growth. Upon completion of the project, National Grid will have installed approximately seven miles of new gas main in Eastern and Northern Brooklyn.
Construction on the current phase of the project has begun on Evergreen Avenue, and we anticipate completing this segment by late spring 2019. This work consists of trench excavation within the roadways followed by installation of the new gas main, temporary paving and, finally, restoration of the roadway. This phase of the project includes the installation of approximately 3000 feet of new underground gas main to be installed along Decatur Street and Evergreen Avenue.
