A typical construction timeline for this work is approximately 200 linear feet per work week. Our crews daytime work schedule runs from Monday to Friday. Please note that some work will take place overnight in accordance with permit stipulations.
National Grid is making significant investments to modernize its natural gas system on Long Island. This project will modernize and reinforce this section of the gas network in Nassau County. It will ultimately improve safety and reliability and provide the capacity necessary to support economic growth in the region. It will also position the gas system to accommodate a future supply point in Nassau County, which will provide us with more independent control of local supply with less reliance on external suppliers.

No. For this phase of the project, we are installing new gas main to reinforce the backbone of Long Island’s gas system.
Construction on the next phase of the pipeline installation will begin in April 2019 and we anticipate completing this segment by December 2019. The construction schedule is subject to change based on weather, material resources and other contingencies that can result from this kind of complex construction.
Traffic will be impacted during construction along the project route. That said, our team working with Nassau County DOT, has developed a Traffic Management Plan that will mitigate traffic issues to the greatest extent feasible.
No, the vast majority of work will take place within established utility corridors.

While our contractors will make efforts to keep disturbance to a minimum, there will undoubtedly be noise associated with this project. Most of that noise will occur while excavation is underway as contractors use heavy equipment to trench ahead of pipe stringing and installation.
