We are happy to report that the newly installed gas main has been put into limited service. Over the coming weeks our crews will be monitoring the new gas main as we transition to full service.

Our crews may be present as needed to odorize the new gas main. As previously mentioned, “odorization” is the process of injecting an odorant into natural gas in a gas main so that it is detectable by smell. Residents located near the tie in locations may notice an odor of gas outside that is associated with this process. Please note that this odor is harmless and will dissipate once the odorization process is complete. Please be aware that any odor of gas inside your home should still be treated as a gas leak and emergency services should be notified. We will have Customer Service Department personnel on site for the duration of the odorization process in order to expedite any calls that may be made.

We are pleased to announce that our crews have completed backfilling on Commonwealth Avenue and on Oakwood Avenue. This week our crews will continue backfilling on Seneca Place and on Babylon Turnpike.

Traffic around the work zones will be directed by flaggers as needed. Drivers traveling past the work zones should expect delays and plan accordingly. We ask drivers and pedestrians to remain alert and abide by all traffic control devices when traveling near the work zones.

Private residences located adjacent to the work zone will have driveway access for vehicles facilitated by the construction crew as needed. Residents will have full pedestrian access at all times.

Our outreach team is continuing to canvass residences and businesses along the project route to share information about our work.

*Over the next week, neighbors can expect to see:

  • Work on Babylon Turnpike between Grand Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue.
  • Work on Seneca Place between Smith Street and Seneca Drive North.

Traffic management updates:

  • Work on Babylon Turnpike will require temporary lane closures for all traffic during daytime work hours (Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm) between Grand Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue.
  • Work on Seneca Place will require temporary road closures for all traffic during daytime work hours (Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm) between Seneca Drive North and Smith Street.
